In information technology, a font [fɒnt] is usually any type of number specified on a computer or attached peripheral device. Depending on the intended representation, the font can be either a raster-oriented bitmap format or a freely scalable vector font. Fonts are auxiliary components of information and communication technology.
A system in which print data is stored centrally and is only printed when its owner logs on to a specific print system. FollowMe means that the print job follows its owner and is not printed rigidly on a previously assigned print system.
A filter is a BENS program with which print data are modified. This also includes conversions, e.g. from Prescribe to PCL or from PCL to PDF.
The Failover Plugin is a BENS Plugin for failover security, that redirects spooled print data to another printer, if the original printer, on which the print data should be output, does not work anymore. For the failover, several printers can be defined in succession. The plugin is mainly used for non-monitored printing systems (e.g. where printing is done at night).
The failover system developed for the BENS server. It is based on the concept of 2 servers that work paralell in the network: One as the main server (master) and the other as a secondary server (slave). The master is permanently mirrored to the slave. If one of the servers fails, the administrator receives an e-mail message from the server that is still working. If the master fails, then the slave automatically takes over the IP address of the master and thus the productive operation.
The term Domain Name System (DNS for short) refers to a central service in an IP-based network such as a computer. When the URL is entered in the browser, the request is forwarded to the corresponding IP address, the server of the website operator, so that the user can call up the corresponding page. Therefore, the system works like a phone book, providing a directory of names that correspond to specific numbers (IP addresses). Since the system mostly runs in the background, many users are not directly aware of this.
DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) is used to allow clients to fully configure TCP/IP settings via UDP (User Datagram Protocol) and avoid IP address conflicts.
The CPU (Central Processing Unit) is often referred to as the main processor. This is the heart of a computer. Without the CPU, the PC cannot work, as the processor is responsible for all calculations and data exchange between memory and the components.
Code Page is a specific rule for encoding characters. A single code page can encode a maximum of 255 characters (1 byte). Each character is encoded with one byte. In order to be able to display more than 255 different characters, the code page is changed during printing. This is done by a special instruction in the executed printer language.
