OVF

Open Virtualization Format (OVF) is an open standard for packaging and distributing virtual applications or software to run in virtual machines.

OperatorInterface

A web interface that serves one or more persons (so-called operators) for the administration of received print files. In this context, it is also referred to as a spool system. It provides the operator with extensive functions, such as print preview, printer selection, archiving, reprinting of page ranges, etc.

Operator

The person responsible for managing print jobs. The administration of print jobs (spool files) includes, among other things, the determination of output devices, order and time of printouts, assignment of job tickets and much more.

OMS

OMS is the abbreviation for Output Management System. The term is used in the SAP environment, among others. There, an OMS is understood as a print server that takes over the management of print data outside the SAP system and notifies the SAP system via push messages about the current status of the print jobs sent from the system. In the SAP system, the so-called coupling type “E” is used as the connection type to the output device for an OMS. Output management systems for SAP systems have to be certified by SAP. The BENS server has such a certificate.

Netdisk

a share or hotfolder connection to a server. This type of connection can be used for both receiving and sending data.

Monitoring

Display of current printer information on a remote screen. Using the monitoring interface, the operator can determine how many pages have been printed, whether the printer still has paper or is reporting any errors.

MFP

MFP is the abbreviation for Multi Function Printer. These are devices that can not only print documents, but also copy, scan and fax them.

Master

The main server via which the current communication runs. The master can be mirrored with the so-called slave during operation. The master checks at regular intervals whether the slave is in use. If the slave fails, the master sends a notification by e-mail to the administrator. If the master fails, the slave automatically takes over productive operation with the IP address of the master and sends a corresponding notification to the administrator.

Macro

The term macro is used in connection with printing for so-called overlays. These are files that contain a print object description (e.g. letterhead, general terms and conditions, logo, watermark) in a specific printer language (e.g. PCL5, PCLXL, Postscript). They are fed to the print data stream only once, and can then be called up on different pages via macro call. E.g. a once defined letterhead with logo and footer can be called on every page of a print document and thus be printed. For the BENS Server there is the MacroGenerator Enterprise, which creates overlays from PDF and XPS templates and the Macro-Filter with which such overlays can be added to the print data.

MAC-Address

A MAC address consists of six bytes and must be unique within the local network. The MAC address identifies the manufacturer of the network card (Organizationally Unique Identifier, or OUI) and also contains the unique identifier of each hardware device.
