Five-Digit Add-On Symbol

The five-digit add-on symbol can be used for special applications in connection with an EAN-13, UPC-A Symbol, UPC-E Symbol or ISBN Symbol (VBCD: EAN/JAN-13 + 5 ; VBCD: EAN/JAN-8 + 5 ; VBCD: UPC-A + 5 ; VBCD: UPC-E + 5; VBCD: ISBN + 5).

The add-on symbol has no right guard bar and no own check digit. The checking is automatically carried out according to the combination of the character sets (A and B) used for encoding the five characters and is automatically generated by the "Visual Bar Code Designer".

Read from left to right, it is composed as follows:

  • one leading Quiet Zone (already predefined by the chief symbol),
  • one guard bar for add-on symbols,
  • one first functional character of the add-on symbol from character sets A or B,
  • one Center Pattern for add-on symbols,
  • one second functional character of the add-on symbol from character sets A or B,
  • one Center Pattern for add-on symbols,
  • one third functional character of the add-on symbol from character sets A or B,
  • one Center Pattern for add-on symbols,
  • one fourth functional character of the add-on symbol from character sets A or B,
  • one Center Pattern for add-on symbols,
  • one fifth functional character of the add-on symbol from character sets A or B,
  • one closing quiet zone.
  • Above the barcode character, the add-on symbol contains a human readable display of the information encoded in the add-on symbol, in OCR-B-font.
